To anyone who has
seen, heard or just read about the fearsome performance of
Subaru’s rally-bred Impreza STi, the following might come as
something of a surprise.
It’s no longer exciting. Not in the visceral, explosive, utterly
manic way that the old STi – including the Prodrive-tweaked
long-term test car – tore its way to the horizon.
Has Subaru lost the plot? No. With impeccable logic, its
engineers decided that while rivals such as the Mitsubishi Evo
grow ever more extreme, the hottest Impreza should be a regular
driver’s car first and foremost – so you don’t have to be a
professional rally driver to get the most out of it.
